Zach on the Rocks

Throughout time, there have been many legendary concerts that stood out. So many factors play into what makes a concert special, and the bar for a truly special concert is different for every person. On November 3rd, a large crowd gathered in Morrison, Colorado for what most there would consider a legendary concert. While you won’t hear about it on the radio or in the news, a snowy night at Red Rocks listening to Zach Bryan perform turned out to be a surreal experience for all there.

Considered one of the greatest venues in the country, possibly the greatest, Red Rocks Amphitheater presents one of the most unique settings in the world, with massive red sandstone rocks that look down on a nature based stone amphitheater carved right into the mountain. Only about 30 minutes from downtown Denver, this venue is able to seat around 9,500. The capacity to Colorado’s largest city with a high population makes this place special, as there is a naturalistic vibe to it that gives no hint of the nearby major city. Denver’s closeness also allows visitors dozens of options for places to stay should one just be visiting the Rocks. At a venue this special, with a rising star such as Zach Bryan calling in fans from all over the country, it made for a truly original night.

Many fans waited in the snow for what felt like ages for the gates to open and the venue to start letting fans in. From the moment fans got there to the time the show ended, snow as white as linen fell from the sky, shaping a frigid but lively night for all those attending. Concertgoer Charlie Hicks described it as “worth the wait” going on to say “The concert could not have been colder, as even the hot chocolate and handwarmers did little to warm us up with the snow blowing in our face the whole night and sub 30 temperatures. Despite this, the music sounded better than ever and the environment could not have been cooler. There are few places as unique as under the Rocks hearing live music.”

With what seemed like a blizzard coming in, the concert promoters had their doubts about whether the concert would actually be able to happen. The Parks Service in Morrison was intent on cancelling the show, citing the weather as a cause for possible disaster. Despite this push, the Red Rocks camp and the Zach Bryan camp would have none of it. Bryan personally covered as much hot chocolate and as many hand warmers as he could cover so that the fans were able to stay as warm as possible and enjoy the show. He also made a massive push to keep the show as planned, fully understanding that many fans traveled very far and spent lots of money to see him play.  Bryan has shown time and time again that he will do almost anything for his fans, and this was another great example of how the rising star will go through hell to show his fans his appreciation.

A concert for the ages, with showings of good faith on all sides, was made on November 3rd at a place many simple refer to as “The Rocks”. There are times where nature and man come together to make surreal moments, and this was certainly one of those times. Much more to come for Zach Bryan, the people’s hero, and much more to come for Red Rocks, the people’s venue.
